This is who I am...

I currently live in Canada and am addicted to my camera. As a young girl I watched my father continuously snapping photos at every occasion, vacation, and everywhere in between. I never fully understood what he saw until I was given my latest camera from my husband and since then we have been inseparable. I have yet to find something I didn't like to photograph. I enjoy seeing the world through Alias Eyes and believe that everything out there is beautiful, you may just need to see it through... Alias Eyes.

My two photography loves are 'Art' (a very broad and flexible word) and Portraits, although they are quite different I believe they can both be full of emotions, expressions, stories, and creativity. I strive daily to see things differently, to imagine and capture ordinary objects and scenes into dreams worthy of canvas. I hope you enjoy the shots I've taken and find them as interesting and inspiring as I do.

I am learning everyday, I am experimenting everyday. Everyday I see things in a new light. If you are a regular on my site, you will see that the photos are constantly changing. I go through waves of inspiration. I love it, and hope you do too. Please feel free to leave comments in my guest book or directly with a photograph. Thank you!

Tricked you....

So I haven't had  much time to click away, but isn't that just what happens around the holidays? Right now I feel as though I'm preparing for everything, and once it starts I will be able to relax and take embarrassing, candid and beautiful photos of loved ones and friends!

At any rate I do have a 'new' photo to share with you. (I took the photo of me long ago, but the photo of the photo of me is what is new) What do you think of this!

I'd love to say that I actually had someone ask me for this photo of me, but I had it done at a really cool website called photofunia.
"how" you ask did I ever find this site, well I happen to check out an old friends photo/blog site. If you have time (and you should make some) check out my friend Newby's site, he is very talented!

Anyways, off to do more stuff that does not include photography :(

see you all in print soon!

Did you see that dog's stick?

My dog loves snow. We've only had comet for 10 months, so that would have made him just a tiny pup last winter, but I tell ya, he loves snow just as much as a good stick....

Speaking of which, have you seen his new stick yet?

wait for it...

wait for it....

There you go, now THAT'S a STICK!!

Our Dog Comet

After a little discussion (between my 4 year old and me), we decided it was time to convince my hubby that our family needed a dog. This was 9 months ago. 9 months ago was a crazy time.

Let me introduce Comet to you.

Here he is 3 months old. At this time he needed our help to get on the couch... how cute!

And now... he's just turned 1 year old this month. He's gotten a bit bigger (o.k. a LOT bigger... but we still Love him!)

He is famous for sitting on this (his now) chair and watching the kids play outside.

So what do you think of our 'little' pup?

SkateBoarding

I don't skateboard, but my kids love to take their bikes to the skate park and try out some tricks. This time around I brought my camera to see what I could see...... Most of these haven't been worked on a lot, just some colour adjustments and cropping... Enjoy!

New Camera!

So it's like Christmas came early for me. I'm off this week to buy a new camera. I've been going back and forth on this for a while, there are so many wonderful camera's out there....
1stly, I've decided to stick with Pentax, I already have a few lenses and it's a comfortable name to me. Now it just comes down to 2 different models. One is a tad more expensive and is the newer version of the less expensive model. Not much difference, the only reason I would wait and save up for the newer one is, well, because it's newer - right? Alas, I'm hoping for a small deal on the older version, and any money saved will go to one of two lenses I want to add to my 'collection' (either a fish-eye or a good 50-300). Hmmm, seems to me I've just made up my mind... (plus I'm a bit impatient when it comes to new toys like this for me :)
I should note, this model is not the professional model either, but from what I am continually told my many professionals and non professionals is, it's not the camera, it's the photographer, I've also been told that you should never spend your money on the camera, instead save it for the lenses... it's all about the 'glass'!

So, as of Thursday or Friday this week I shall have the new (but older version) of the Pentax K-x (in White)... I will post pictures (and hopefully this will get me out of my 'funk' of not taking photos the last..... well, the last long, looooooong time.... agh, I hate when that happens!!!

oh yes, I wanted to pass along this link for the coolest camera straps I've ever seen! I already have a list of 3 different ones that I want for Christmas presents and have told all of my family about them, they are so cool, and I think they will look so fantastic on my new white camera!!!! check them out!

Missing Photo Op.

A few weeks ago I spotted this curious caterpillar in our potted cilantro.

When a week had passed and I noticed him again in the same potted cilantro, I decided to take another photo of him.

Not much difference, but you will notice that the tiny spikes are missing now.... Anyways, it's gotten a little colder here at night, so my husband and I decided to bring him into the house.
What a great photo op too! I could capture the rest of his stages of turning into a butterfly....

Well, I'm so sorry to say, that this morning between the time we said good morning to him, to the time we came home from grocery shopping, he had....

disappeared.... We're not sure if the cat got him, or he somehow found a better buffet or place to start his cocoon.... But he is M.I.A... too bad!

Summer Time

Well, the end of soccer and school means the beginning of Summer Time! And that is what we've been doing, Summer! I love love love summer (as much as I love photography), but sometimes it's just too much to run around with my kids AND the heavy flopping camera. I feel that I've missed out on some crazy photo chances, but hopefully I'll remember them in my mind.

Over the next few days (maybe hours), I'll put up some personal and 'professional' photos that I've taken this summer... I mean, it's about time right?

Here we have Oscar and Comet drinking out of the water hose.... isn't that just the meaning of summer!

June 9, 2010

It's been a long time.... isn't that what everyone says? At any rate, it has been. I'm horrible at blogging, and at times, I'm horrible at taking photos. At the moment I am taking photos at my oldest sons soccer games.

So much fun!

I'm also having a 'sale' on my site 25% off any print until June 26th 2010!!!!! The coupon code you'll need is
my1staliaseyesprint
Please feel free to pass this on to EVERYONE!!! I'm having this sale to raise money for some huge Canvas prints to go to a Gallery here in the city. Wish me luck!!

I was hoping to get busier with family photos, but am honestly glad that I'm not.... I just don't think that's my 'cup of tea' right now. I am quite content in just having the camera near me and snapping things as the come along. I did find a pretty ladybug last week and took her photo ...

other then that (and having a HUGE list of photos that I want to take) .... I have nothing else really pressing.....

with those words, have a great weekend....

January 26, 2010

I'm currently accepting assignments in and around the Winnipeg area. It's still a little chilly out there, but if you can handle it then you will be rewarded with some beautiful shots! Why not make an appointment for your next sledding or skating day out, or we can meet at your local park or backyard. Winter weather is not as pleasant for prolonged photo shoots and so until March 1st 2010 all pricing and time spent will be reduced by 30%.

Contact me via this blog or email me at aliaseyes@gmail.com

Can't wait to see you all in print!
